F3 Radiator Adapter Kit!!!
>Is a F3 radiator a good upgrade for a Hawk ?
"Somebody should answer this. There is a BDTech F3 Adapter kit, been in
testing since last summer. The rathawk would choke and puke at track events
early last summer, very unnerving to say the least. His Hordliness suggested
an F3 rad, and what he says, we do. It's a little wide, okay, a lot wide at
16 inches, 2 wider than a stock hawk rad. But it's about the same height, so
it fits, and has a similar top end mounting, which the F2 rad doesn't. We've
never even put the fan on, it runs so cool engaged in extended stop and go
traffic, that we feel as cool as Papa Bear Selden, the temp gauge barely
moves up. And running on the track, at speed, cool as a cucumber, and no
more choke and puke in the pits, no more gargley is my head gasket blown
type sounds. F3 rad: 16x8x1 inches; stock hawk rad 14x7.75x 0.5 inches. The
only number you need look at is the thickness, the F3 rad should have twice
the cooling being twice as thick.
The best reason for using the rad is that they are cheap, there were a
number of them on ebay last week, don't all you go fight each other for them
and drive the prices up. Does not require a plumber friend to rearrange one
of the spigots, like the narrow Magna rad is supposed to. Drawbacks: the
width, you might knock over some kids waiting for the bus, if you don't
watch your lane positioning, supposedly doesn't fit with hawk appropriate
narrow bodywork, and crashworthiness. It sticks out wider than the cases,
what do you think is going to happen?"
